Every garage cleanout starts the same way: somebody opens the door, looks at fifteen years of stuff, and calls us asking for the biggest can we have. Most of the time they don't need it. Here's how to size it honestly before you spend the extra money.
The Pickup-Truck Test
When you call (864) 871-4290, the first thing Ryan will ask is this: if you hauled it all yourself, how many pickup truck loads would it take? Walk the garage and count in truck beds. The lawn mower that quit in 2019, the bikes nobody rides, the boxes from the last move that never got opened. Be honest with yourself about the pile.
Three or four truck loads is a 10-yard dumpster. That's the answer for most single-car and two-car garages around Greenwood, and at $375 for a 1 to 3 day rental it's the cheapest way to get a garage back. The can is 7 feet wide and 12 feet long, about the footprint of one parking space, so it sits on the driveway right where the junk is coming out.
When the Garage Outgrows the 10
Some garages are really storage units with a car door. If the attic is coming down with it, or the "garage cleanout" keeps growing into the basement and the shed, step up to the 15-yard. Same low 4-foot walls, four more feet of length, and you won't be playing Tetris with the last few boxes.
The weight limit matters less on garage jobs than you'd think. Household junk is bulky, not dense, and the 2 tons included with a 10-yard covers almost any garage in the county. The exception is when old flooring, bricks, or bags of hardened concrete mix are hiding in the corners. Concrete can't ride in our cans at all for now, and the heavy odds and ends are worth mentioning on the phone so nothing surprises you at pickup.
Make the Weekend Work For You
Garage cleanouts are weekend jobs, and the 1 to 3 day rental fits a weekend fine. Order the can for Friday, work Saturday, and since we don't run on Sundays, a rental that ends on one gets picked up Monday at no extra charge. That's a free day, and most people use every hour of it.
One more tip from a few hundred of these jobs: sort as you load. Furniture in decent shape can go to a donation pickup instead of the can, which saves space for the stuff that's genuinely done. Appliances can't ride inside the dumpster, but set them beside it and we'll haul them off for $25 each on a separate truck.
