A lot of the neighborhoods in and around Greenwood run under an HOA, and the rules on dumpsters aren't a government permit, they're written by the board and they vary from one community to the next. Skipping the check doesn't get you fined by the county; it gets you a letter from the association, and those are their own kind of headache.
What Boards Usually Ask For
The most common rule is a time limit: how many days a dumpster can sit visible from the street before it's a violation, often somewhere between a few days and two weeks. Some HOAs also want it screened or tarped when it's not actively being loaded, and a few restrict which side of the driveway it can sit on if there's a shared sightline with a neighbor. None of this is universal. The only way to know your community's actual rule is to check the covenants or call whoever manages the HOA before you book.
Get It in Writing
An email to the board or management company saying "I'm renting a dumpster from Proudfoot Rolloffs from [date] to [date] for a [project]" takes two minutes and gives you something to point to if a neighbor complains. Verbal approval is fine until it isn't; a saved email is proof either way. This is the same logic as a rental property: landlord or HOA sign-off in writing, before the truck shows up, not after a letter arrives.
Placement Matters More Under an HOA
Where the dumpster sits does more work than the dumpster itself when a neighborhood has sightline or screening rules. Side yard instead of the most visible driveway spot, angled to keep the doors away from the street, tucked behind a vehicle if that's allowed: small placement choices head off most complaints before they start. When you order, tell us about any HOA constraints and we'll work the placement around them the same way we'd work around a low tree canopy or a tight lot.
Our Part, and Yours
Arranging HOA approval is the customer's side of the job, same as a street permit; we don't have a relationship with your specific association and can't get you cleared. What we can do is deliver on time, keep the rental period tight if your board has a short time limit, and set the dumpster wherever works best once you've confirmed it's allowed. Most HOA jobs we see are residential remodels and cleanouts, so we've worked around plenty of tight-sightline driveways before.
Renting under a shorter HOA window? Say so when you call (864) 871-4290 and we'll match the rental length to it, from a 1-to-3-day drop to the full 30-day option. More on permits generally, including the street-vs-driveway rule, is on the permit guide.
