Most of what a house or job site produces rides in a roll-off without a second thought. The banned list is short, but every item on it is there for a real reason, and knowing the reasons makes the list easy to remember. Here's ours, with the workarounds.
The Weight Problem: Concrete, Brick, and Dirt
For now, no concrete, brick, block, or dirt in our cans. This one isn't about the landfill. It's about physics. A 20-yard can filled even halfway with concrete outweighs what our current trucks can legally haul down Highway 25. Bigger triaxle trucks are in the plan, and when they arrive this rule changes. Until then, heavy masonry and soil need a different disposal route, and we'll say so on the phone rather than let a load get stranded.
The sneaky version of this problem is the "mostly normal" load with concrete hiding in it. Fence posts with footings still attached, a broken birdbath, half bags of Quikrete that hardened in the shed. Mention them when you call (864) 871-4290 and we'll figure out the right answer before delivery day.
The Landfill's List: Tires, Paint, Oil, Batteries
The landfill won't take certain things from us, so we can't take them from you. Tires. Wet paint and stains. Motor oil and solvents. Car and equipment batteries. Anything genuinely hazardous, from gas cans to pesticides to asbestos. Greenwood County and the surrounding counties run collection options for most of these, and a quick call to your county's solid waste office finds the current drop-off days.
One useful exception: paint that's fully dried and hardened in the can is fine. If you've got half-empty cans, pull the lids and let them cure, or mix in cat litter to speed it up. Dry paint rides; wet paint doesn't.
Appliances
Appliances are their own case. They can't go inside the dumpster, but you don't need to haul them anywhere either. Set them beside the can, tell us they're there, and we pick them up with a separate truck for $25 each. Refrigerators and freezers included, and that covers the refrigerant handling that makes appliance disposal a headache everywhere else.
When in Doubt, Ask Before You Load
The full rundown lives on the what-goes-in page, and the honest rule of thumb is this: if an item makes you pause, it's worth a thirty-second question before it's buried under a half ton of debris. Texting a photo works too. Digging a banned item out of a loaded can is nobody's favorite afternoon, ours included.
Everything else, load it up. Furniture, remodel debris, roofing shingles, yard waste, the accumulated contents of any garage in the Lakelands. That's what the cans are for.
